Editorial Policy and Sources

elathar is an Arab platform about NGOs, volunteering, giving and impact making across the Middle East and North Africa, run by Impactedia as one of its media brands. This page explains how we choose stories, where our information comes from, how we handle what organizations say about their impact, and how we correct mistakes.

What we publish

  • Journeys: leaders, activists and managers changing their communities, based on public records and what they publish about themselves.
  • Organizations: associations, foundations, international organizations and development partners, based on their own reports and official records.
  • Tools: reviews of apps and software useful to associations.
  • Guides: practical explanations of running an association, fundraising, managing volunteers and measuring impact.
  • Insights: our reading of data and reports on the sector.
  • News: civil society, funding and events, written from the announcement itself.
  • Opportunities: grants, programs, fellowships and open calls, written from the organizer’s official call.

How we source

Every figure, date and factual claim in an article links to where it comes from. We prefer primary sources, in this order:

  1. The organization’s own documents: annual and impact reports, financial statements, official announcements and program pages.
  2. Institutional sources: government bodies and authorities overseeing the civil society sector, and reports from international institutions, funders and research bodies, cited by name and publication date.
  3. Public registries and databases, when the organization publishes nothing itself.

We take facts from the organizations and institutions involved, not from other media outlets’ coverage. When two credible sources give different figures, we show both and explain the difference rather than picking one. We do not publish statistics, quotes, awards or rankings we cannot trace to a source.

Impact is measured, not claimed

When an organization tells us it changed people’s lives, that is where our work starts. We look for the figure, the number of beneficiaries and the result that can be checked. When an organization reports its own results, we say the figure comes from the organization and link to the report it comes from. If a claim has nothing behind it, we do not publish it.

elathar does not certify, rate or audit organizations, and being featured on the site is not an endorsement. elathar does not collect donations.

Arabic and English

We publish in Arabic and English. Both editions follow the same sourcing, correction and update rules set out on this page.

Tools, affiliate links and sponsored content

Some links in our Tools section are affiliate links, and elathar may earn a commission when a reader signs up through them. Sponsored or partner content is labeled as such so it can be told apart from our own reporting.

No financial or legal advice

elathar is not a financial, legal or fundraising adviser. Our articles give readers the facts they need to understand an organization, a funding program or a sector. They do not tell anyone where to donate or what to apply for. For a decision about your own organization or your donations, speak to a qualified adviser. Our Disclaimer sets this out in full.

Updates

We review profiles and guides when the facts they rely on change, for example a new annual report, a change of leadership or a new program cycle, and update the article and its sources.

Corrections

If you find an error, tell us through our contact page and include a link to the source that shows the correct information. We check every report. When a correction changes a fact, figure or name, we fix the article and update its date.

Story tips and submissions

You can suggest an organization, a story or an opportunity through the contact page. Please include a link to the data or results that support it. We verify it before anything is published. You can read more about who we are on our About page.
